What happens when the role you've built your identity around suddenly disappears?

For a lot of us in midlife, that moment arrives without warning. And in the silence that follows, the question that surfaces is one we're not always prepared to answer: Who am I now?

Dr. Kathleen Perry lived that question. After forty years as a chiropractor, acupuncturist, and functional medicine practitioner, she walked away from her practice in the middle of a pandemic, while caring for her dying husband, and spent eighteen months in the uncomfortable, necessary, ultimately transformative work of finding out who she was underneath the title.

In this conversation, Kathleen and I go deep on the identity shifts that midlife almost always brings, and we don't treat them as problems to solve. We treat them as invitations; to get curious, and to get a little playful with the exploration. What could happen if you stop gripping the outcome and start following what actually feels alive?

Because here's what we both believe: reinvention doesn't always look like building something new. Sometimes it looks like returning to something in yourself that was always there, waiting for you to get quiet enough to hear it.

We talk about:

- Why the discomfort of identity loss isn't a sign something is wrong — it might be the most important signal you've gotten in years

- How high achievers and perfectionists get especially tangled up in their roles — and how to start loosening that grip

- What it means to get out of your head and into your body as a guide for what's next

- Why play isn't a reward for getting your life together — it's actually the doorway to figuring out what your life wants to be

- The belief you can consciously choose when the world feels overwhelming and your nervous system needs a reset

- How to know the difference between the voice in your head and the quieter knowing underneath it

This one went places I didn't expect. In the best possible way.
